Gombe State Bans Scrap Metal Business Over Rising Security Concerns

By Erewunmi Peace

The Gombe State Government has banned the scrap metal business across the state, citing growing security threats linked to the trade.

The government highlighted that vandalism of public infrastructure, including schools and other critical facilities, has been traced to stolen metals sold to scrap dealers.

The ban, which takes effect immediately, requires all scrap dealers to operate under a recognized leadership structure and from designated, controlled centers to ensure proper monitoring. Authorities emphasized that the restriction will remain in place until these conditions are met.

In addition to the ban, the state government has introduced mandatory profiling of new residents and tenants to strengthen security and intelligence gathering. Officials stated that these measures are aimed at curbing crime and protecting public property across Gombe State.

The decision has been widely supported as a proactive step to enhance public safety and prevent further vandalism while promoting lawful business operations.
