Ex-Governor Chris Ngige Arrested by EFCC in Abuja

By Erewunmi Peace

Former Anambra State Governor and ex-Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

Ngige was taken into custody on Wednesday after he reportedly honoured an invitation from the anti-graft agency. His former media aide confirmed the development and dismissed earlier rumours circulating on social media that Ngige had been kidnapped.

According to the aide, the former minister walked into the EFCC office voluntarily but was detained afterward as part of an ongoing investigation. The EFCC has not yet released an official statement on the specific allegations or reasons behind the arrest.

Sources within the agency revealed that Ngige is still undergoing interrogation, and further details are expected to be made public as the investigation progresses.

Chris Ngige served as governor of Anambra State from 2003 to 2006 and later as Minister of Labour under President Muhammadu Buhari. His arrest marks one of the latest high-profile detentions by the EFCC in its ongoing anti-corruption drive.

More updates to follow as the story develops.
