Ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami Faces Allegations Over $1 Billion Cloned Account

By Erewunmi Peace

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), is reportedly under scrutiny following a whistleblower petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The petition alleges that Malami and senior Justice Ministry officials were involved in the mismanagement of a cloned Nigerian Ports Authority bank account reportedly holding over $1 billion.

The EFCC has acknowledged receipt of the petition, and preliminary investigations are said to be ongoing.

However, it is important to note that Malami has not been formally charged or indicted in relation to this allegation.

Malami is already facing separate ongoing legal proceedings involving allegations of corruption and money laundering.

Recent court actions include bail rulings and interim forfeiture of properties linked to those cases.

As of now, the EFCC is reviewing the whistleblower’s petition, and no official statements confirm wrongdoing in connection with the cloned account.

The case remains at the investigative stage, and updates will follow as the EFCC progresses.
