A Kaduna-based businessman, Nasir Musa Idris, has petitioned the Nigerian Police Force, alleging that prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi is currently accommodating his estranged Moroccan wife, Khadija Daib, and refusing to release her back to him.

In the petition dated October 27 and submitted through his lawyers, Idris claimed that he legally married Khadija in Morocco before the marriage was later solemnised in Nigeria. According to him, a misunderstanding between the couple led his wife to seek help from Gumi’s wife, who is also Moroccan.

Idris alleged that Sheikh Gumi invited both of them to his residence in Kaduna to resolve the issue but later instructed him to leave Khadija behind and return at a later date.

“Since then, all efforts to reunite with my wife have been frustrated, as Sheikh Gumi has refused to allow her return home,” Idris stated in the petition.

The businessman further claimed that multiple attempts to retrieve his wife had failed, prompting him to seek police intervention.

As of the time of filing this report, Sheikh Gumi has not publicly responded to the allegations. Several calls and messages sent to his known phone number reportedly went unanswered.

The police have not yet issued a formal statement on whether an investigation has commenced.
