Dangote Group has appointed Dr. Mahmud Hassan, a former senior official of the Central Bank of Nigeria, as its Group Chief Economist, in a move aimed at strengthening the company’s economic research and policy advisory capacity.
The appointment, which was recently announced by the conglomerate, places the former CBN boss in charge of providing strategic economic analysis, monitoring macroeconomic trends, and advising the group’s leadership on fiscal, monetary, and investment-related matters.
According to the company, the new Chief Economist brings decades of experience in economic policy formulation, financial regulation, and market analysis, having previously served in key roles at the apex bank.
Dangote Group noted that the appointment aligns with its long-term strategy to deepen data-driven decision-making across its diverse business interests, which span cement production, energy, manufacturing, agriculture, and petrochemicals.
Industry analysts say the move reflects the group’s intention to navigate Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape more effectively, particularly amid changing monetary policies and global market uncertainties.
Dangote Group remains one of Africa’s largest industrial conglomerates, with significant investments across the continent and a strong focus on economic growth and industrial development.
