Former Osun Lawmaker Dr. Mulikat Joins APC Governorship Race, Picks Nomination Form as Sole Female Aspirant

By Erewunmi Peace

A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Dr. Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, has officially joined the 2026 governorship race under the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerging as the only female aspirant to have purchased the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms so far.

Dr. Mulikat, who represented the Ifelodun State Constituency, obtained her forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, signaling her intention to contest the governorship seat ahead of the party’s primary election scheduled for December.

Speaking after picking the form, she described her decision as “a call to service,” noting that Osun State needs “inclusive leadership, renewed economic development, and a government that listens to the people.”

Her entry into the race has generated excitement within women’s political groups, who see her aspiration as a major step toward expanding female representation in Osun politics.

Party officials confirmed that she is currently the first and only woman to declare her interest in the crowded APC field, which includes several prominent male politicians already making consultations across the state.

Dr. Mulikat emphasized that her campaign will focus on youth empowerment, strengthened education systems, and sustainable development for rural communities.

With the race intensifying, political observers are watching closely to see how the presence of a strong female contender may reshape the dynamics of the APC primary.
