Osun 2026: INEC Begins Second Phase of Voter Registration

By Erewunmi Peace
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Osun State, ahead of the 2026 general elections.

This follows the conclusion of the first phase, which combined online pre-registration and in-person registration across the country.

INEC officials said the ongoing exercise is part of efforts to ensure eligible citizens are properly registered to vote.

Schedule and Participation
According to INEC, the second phase began on January 5, 2026, and will continue for several months, allowing eligible citizens who missed the first phase to register.

Both first-time voters and those updating their details on the electoral roll are encouraged to participate.

The Commission has also emphasized that all registration centers in Osun State are equipped to handle the increased turnout, following lessons from the first phase, which saw significant public engagement.

Importance Ahead of 2026 Elections
INEC officials stressed that the CVR is crucial for a transparent and credible electoral process, particularly in states like Osun, which will witness key polls in the coming months.

Citizens are urged to carry valid identification documents such as a national ID, passport, or driver’s license to facilitate registration.

A spokesperson for INEC said:
“We are committed to making voter registration accessible, efficient, and credible.

All eligible Nigerians in Osun State should take advantage of this opportunity to ensure their voices are heard in the 2026 elections.”

Public Response

Observers note that early reports from registration centers indicate strong participation, with many young and first-time voters coming forward to update their records or register for the first time. Civil society groups have also lauded INEC’s efforts to maintain a continuous and transparent voter registration process.
