Osun APC Challenges Governor Adeleke Over Claim of 5,000 Teacher Recruitment

By Erewunmi Peace

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has challenged Governor Ademola Adeleke’s claim that his administration has recruited 5,000 teachers within the past three years, describing the statement as misleading and unsubstantiated.

In a statement issued in Osogbo and signed by the party’s chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the Osun APC accused the state government of peddling false information to score political points ahead of future elections.

According to the APC, no significant recruitment of teachers has been carried out since Governor Adeleke assumed office in 2022, contrary to his recent claims during a public event. The party alleged that the governor’s statement was “spurious, vacuous, and fraudulent,” insisting that the education sector in the state remains short-staffed and poorly funded.

“It is disheartening that the Adeleke administration continues to deceive the public with claims that cannot be verified. Since his assumption of office, not a single qualified teacher has been employed through any credible process,” the statement read in part.

The opposition party further urged the governor to provide documentary evidence of the alleged recruitment exercise and disclose the names and deployment details of the supposed 5,000 teachers.

Meanwhile, efforts to get a response from the Osun State Government were ongoing as of the time of this report. Government officials have, however, maintained that the administration remains committed to improving the quality of education and addressing manpower shortages in public schools across the state.

The debate over teacher recruitment comes amid broader discussions on education reform, as stakeholders continue to call for improved funding, infrastructure, and teacher welfare in Osun State.
