The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ali Ndume, has stirred fresh controversy after alleging that aides and officials within the Presidential Villa demand bribes from those seeking access to President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an interview with Arise Television, the lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District lamented that even he, as a senior member of the National Assembly, finds it nearly impossible to meet with the president without going through corrupt gatekeepers.

Ndume claimed that the current administration is dominated by what he described as “kakistocrats” individuals unfit to lead or manage public affairs who have surrounded the president and isolated him from genuine advisers.

“I don’t have a chance to see the president. The only time I can see him is when he is going to an event,” Ndume said. “This is how they run the government. They don’t have people there; the government is dominated by kakistocrats. If you want to see the president, they will ask you how much.”

He further disclosed that he had written formally requesting a meeting with the president over pressing financial issues but was met with frustrating bureaucratic delays and what he described as “games” from those controlling access to the nation’s leader.

Ndume’s remarks come amid growing tension between Nigeria and the United States following President Donald Trump’s recent comments on alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria and threats of potential U.S. military intervention.

The senator’s revelation adds to concerns about transparency and accessibility at the highest levels of Nigeria’s leadership, with critics warning that corruption within the corridors of power could further erode public trust.
