Presidency Says Tinubu Will Appoint Ambassadors “Very, Very Soon”

By Erewunmi Peace

The Presidency has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to announce a new list of ambassadorial appointments “very, very soon,” following months of anticipation after the recall of all Nigerian envoys.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the President is finalizing the selection process and will unveil the nominees shortly. According to him, Nigerians should expect the announcement sooner than later.

Sources within the Presidency revealed that the delay was largely due to ongoing economic reforms and the need to carefully select competent individuals who will represent Nigeria across global missions.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, had earlier confirmed that the ministry had submitted its recommendations to the President, with vetting and background checks carried out on proposed nominees.

Once released, the ambassadorial list will fill more than 100 diplomatic positions globally, following the mass recall of ambassadors in 2023. Analysts say the new appointments will be crucial for Nigeria’s foreign policy direction heading into 2026.

The Presidency has assured that the appointments are now in the final stages of approval.
