Insecurity: Group Demands Overhaul of Amotekun, Cites Leadership Failure
By Erewunmi Peace
A civil society organisation, The Osun Masterminds (TOM), has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, citing alleged leadership and operational failures.
The group made the call in a statement while reacting to the rising cases of insecurity across parts of Osun State, expressing concern over what it described as the corps’ inability to effectively respond to security challenges.
According to TOM, several incidents involving alleged misconduct and poor coordination by Amotekun operatives have raised questions about the leadership structure and overall effectiveness of the security outfit.
The group urged the Osun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, to urgently review the operations of the corps and implement reforms aimed at strengthening accountability, professionalism, and efficiency.
TOM further noted that similar regional security outfits in other South-West states appear to be performing better, stressing the need for Osun State to reposition its Amotekun Corps to regain public trust.
The group maintained that a well-structured and properly led security network is critical to addressing insecurity and protecting lives and property in the state.
