Ondo Assembly Moves to Remove Speaker Oladiji After Passing Vote of No Confidence

By Erewunmi Peace

Lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly have passed a vote of no confidence in the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, and have begun formal steps toward his removal from office.

A total of 12 members signed a resolution dated November 13, 2025, accusing the Speaker of financial misconduct, including the alleged diversion of ₦50 million and mismanagement of operational funds belonging to the House.

The lawmakers cited Section 92(4)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the House to remove the Speaker on grounds of gross misconduct.

According to the resolution, the Speaker’s actions were described as “unbecoming of the leader of the legislative arm”, prompting the lawmakers to unanimously begin an impeachment procedure.

The development has heightened tension within the Assembly, as members have reportedly been holding strategic meetings to finalize the process.

As of the time of filing this report, Speaker Oladiji has not publicly responded to the allegations, and the House leadership has not issued an official statement on the next steps.

More updates to follow as the situation develops.
