In a chilling case that has shocked the nation, a 400-level University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) student, Damian Okoligwe, has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing and dismembering his girlfriend.

The High Court in Port Harcourt found that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. The judge described the crime as intentional, premeditated, and calculated. The death sentence was handed down as “hanging by the neck until confirmed dead.”

The victim, Justina Otuene, was a 300-level Biochemistry student at UNIPORT. Reports indicate that she was killed and dismembered by Okoligwe, a 400-level Petrochemical Engineering student. Authorities stated that the act was deliberate and brutal, leading to nationwide outrage.
