Osun Residents Await Deployment of Refurbished Armoured Vehicles Eight Months After Government Announcement

Residents of Osun State have continued to express concern over the non-deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) promised by the state government, eight months after Governor Ademola Adeleke announced their refurbishment as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.

In May 2025, the Osun State Government disclosed that several armoured vehicles inherited from the previous administration were undergoing refurbishment and would be made available to security agencies to combat rising security challenges, particularly in border communities.
However, months after the announcement, the vehicles are yet to be seen in active security operations, raising questions among residents and civil society groups about their readiness and current status.

Some security observers and activists have alleged that the refurbishment process may have been limited, claiming that the vehicles have not been fully restored for operational use.

They argue that the delay in deployment has weakened public confidence, especially as communities continue to report incidents related to insecurity.

Responding to the concerns, the state government has maintained that the refurbishment exercise is genuine and forms part of a broader security strategy that includes collaboration with federal security agencies, joint patrols, and the provision of operational support to law enforcement bodies.

Government officials have also reiterated that the refurbished armoured vehicles will be deployed when fully certified for use, urging residents to remain patient while security plans are being finalized.

The situation has continued to attract public attention, with residents calling for transparency and timely action, particularly as insecurity remains a key concern across parts of the state.
