Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, has recounted his recent visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, during which he was honoured and installed as the Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source.
President Mahama, who was in Nigeria in December 2025, described his time at the Ooni’s palace as a memorable experience. According to the Ghanaian leader, the Ooni personally showed him around parts of the palace, sharing words of encouragement and offering prayers for his leadership journey.
Speaking to journalists, Mahama highlighted the warm reception and guidance he received from the Yoruba monarch, noting that the encounter left a lasting impression on him. He also shared photos from the visit, capturing moments of traditional rituals, palace tours, and cultural interactions.
The installation ceremony drew prominent dignitaries, traditional leaders, and cultural enthusiasts, underscoring the strong diplomatic and cultural ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
While some media outlets reported Mahama’s reference to “secret places” in the palace, the president emphasized it as part of his personal recounting of the palace tour, reflecting the Ooni’s hospitality and counsel.
The visit and honour further strengthen Ghana-Nigeria relations and highlight the cultural diplomacy and friendship between the two West African nations.
