Lagos Launches 24-Hour Traffic Control Ahead of Festive Season
By Erewunmi Peace
The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of a 24-hour traffic control operation to improve traffic flow and enhance safety across major routes in the state as end-of-year activities intensify.
The initiative, launched through the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), is part of the state’s “Operation Ember Months Stability” targeted at preventing gridlocks, removing road obstructions, and enforcing compliance with traffic regulations during the busy festive period.
Officials said the operation involves a multi-agency task force, including environmental and security units. Personnel have been deployed to critical corridors such as Ikorodu Road, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lekki-Epe Expressway, and Agege Motor Road.
The government also confirmed the removal of abandoned vehicles, illegal roadside structures, and trading spots found obstructing major highways and under bridges, in a bid to ensure free vehicular movement.
Authorities urged motorists to cooperate with officers on duty and adhere strictly to traffic laws, noting that safety and convenience for road users remain top priority during the festive period.
The Lagos government emphasized that the 24-hour enforcement will continue throughout the ember months and would be reviewed as necessary based on traffic demands.
