Panic gripped residents of Ipele community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State following an attack by armed gunmen who set the local Divisional Police Station ablaze during the early hours of the New Year.

According to reports, the assailants stormed the community late on Tuesday night, December 31, firing gunshots before setting the police facility on fire.

The attack forced residents to flee their homes for safety, with many reportedly taking refuge in nearby bushes.

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. Police authorities disclosed that the station was destroyed during the attack, while exhibits and operational materials were affected.

However, the police clarified that no casualty has been officially recorded, and contrary to some social media claims, no church or civilian structure was attacked during the incident.

Security operatives have since been deployed to the area to restore calm, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend those responsible.

As of the time of filing this report, the identity and motive of the attackers remain unclear.

Authorities have described the assailants as gunmen, noting that investigations are ongoing.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to strengthen security across the community.
