A bomb explosion at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, Borno State, has left multiple worshippers dead and many others injured, according to official reports. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening during Maghrib prayers, sending residents fleeing in panic.

The Nigerian police and security agencies confirmed that at least five people were killed and around 35 others injured, though casualty figures are still being verified. Early investigations indicate that the blast was caused by a suspected suicide bomber using an improvised explosive device (IED).

Security forces and emergency responders were promptly deployed to the scene to secure the area, evacuate victims, and conduct investigations. Injured worshippers have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Residents of Gamboru Market expressed shock and fear following the explosion. Many fled the area as security forces cordoned off the site to prevent further incidents.

This attack comes amid ongoing security challenges in northeastern Nigeria, particularly in Borno State, which has faced repeated attacks by insurgent groups. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The government and security agencies are continuing investigations to identify the perpetrators and prevent future attacks.
