By Erewunmi Peace
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has officially declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the upcoming 2026 governorship election.
The declaration was made during the party’s special congress held in Ado-Ekiti, where 885 delegates from the state’s 177 wards across 16 local government areas unanimously affirmed Oyebanji’s candidacy through a voice vote.
Speaking after the affirmation, the APC State Chairman, Barrister Paul Omotosho, said the party decided to adopt a consensus approach to maintain unity and reward the governor’s outstanding performance in office.
“Governor Oyebanji has provided transparent, people-centered leadership that has strengthened the APC in Ekiti. The delegates’ decision today is a show of confidence in his achievements and continuity,” Omotosho said.
Governor Oyebanji, in his acceptance speech, thanked party leaders and members for their trust, promising to consolidate on the gains of his administration and deliver more developmental projects across all sectors.
“This endorsement is not about me, but about the progress of our state. I appreciate the APC family for believing in our shared vision to make Ekiti a model of good governance,” he stated.
Party leaders, including former governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and representatives of women and youth wings, also pledged full support for Oyebanji’s second-term bid, describing him as “a unifying force and a performer.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to officially release the 2026 election timetable in early 2026.
