APC Accuses Peter Obi of Exploiting Nigeria’s Hardship for Political Gain
By Erewunmi Peace
A new political confrontation erupted on Monday as the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) accused Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, of using Nigeria’s economic and security struggles to score political points.
According to the APC statement, Obi “seems to celebrate” whenever the country faces challenges, claiming his recent remarks on hardship and insecurity are designed to discredit the ruling party rather than provide realistic solutions.
Obi has repeatedly warned that millions of Nigerians are sinking deeper into poverty and that national conditions have worsened under APC’s governance. His critics argue the Labour Party figurehead has offered more criticism than practical policy direction.
Political analysts say the escalating exchange reflects increasingly heated positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections. Both parties have continued to trade strong statements as the country faces inflation, unemployment, and insecurity.
As of now, there is no independent transcript confirming that Obi directly celebrated Nigeria’s hardship — the claim remains a matter of political interpretation and rhetoric.
