FG Needs At Least Five Years to Stabilise New Tax Laws — Adedeji
By Erewunmi Peace
The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has said the Federal Government will require a minimum of five years to fully stabilise and implement Nigeria’s newly introduced tax laws.
Adedeji made this known on Thursday in Oyo State while speaking at a crossover service, where he addressed issues surrounding the country’s ongoing tax reforms.
According to him, the new tax framework introduced by the Federal Government is aimed at harmonising Nigeria’s tax system by consolidating multiple taxes into a single, streamlined structure to improve efficiency and compliance.
He explained that although the reforms are designed to simplify taxation and reduce administrative bottlenecks, their full impact will only be realised over time, as institutions and taxpayers gradually adjust to the new system.
Adedeji noted that tax reforms of such scale require patience and consistency, stressing that stability cannot be achieved immediately after implementation.
The tax laws form part of the Tinubu administration’s broader economic reform agenda, which seeks to boost revenue generation, strengthen fiscal management, and promote sustainable economic growth.
The NRS chairman urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive, assuring that the reforms are intended to create a more transparent and equitable tax environment in the long run.
