Former Ogun State First Lady, Lucia Onabanjo, Dies at 100

The family of Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, wife of the late Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, the first civilian governor of Ogun State, has announced her death at the age of 100.

She passed away on Monday, January 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of family love, faith, and community service. Her daughter, Ms. Olubukunola Onabanjo, confirmed the death in a statement expressing gratitude for her mother’s long and fulfilled life.

Lucia Onabanjo, a revered matriarch, grandmother, and great-grandmother, is remembered for her dedication to her family and her contributions to the social and cultural development of Ogun State. She was married to Governor Onabanjo, who served as the state’s first civilian governor from 1979 to 1983.

In response to her passing, tributes have poured in from family, friends, and public figures, celebrating her strength, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to family and society.
