Ayo Fayose Reacts After PDP Announces His Expulsion
By Erewunmi Peace
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele “Ayo” Fayose has reacted sharply to reports of his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the move as illegitimate and politically motivated.
Fayose was among several prominent figures — including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike — named in an expulsion motion reportedly passed at the PDP national convention held in Ibadan. The announcement has triggered controversy within the party, with several PDP governors distancing themselves from the decision.
Reacting on X (formerly Twitter), Fayose dismissed the expulsion in strong terms, writing:
“The living can’t be found among the dead. The dead don’t expel the living.”
His comment follows recent criticism of the party’s internal leadership crisis, with Fayose previously declaring that the PDP is in a “comatose state” and “decaying from the head.”
Meanwhile, the legitimacy of the expulsion is now a subject of dispute. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri have publicly rejected the move, stating that the decision was not discussed or approved by the PDP Governors’ Forum or other key party organs. They have instead called for reconciliation and due process.
Despite the announcement, Fayose has insisted he remains a member of the PDP, saying he will not abandon the party.
As of press time, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has not issued a detailed clarification on the procedural validity of the expulsion, leaving Fayose’s official status within the party uncertain.
