Tension has risen in parts of Anambra State after unknown gunmen launched coordinated attacks on a police patrol team and later targeted the convoy of a former governor on Sunday.
The first incident occurred along the Abatete–Eziowelle Road in Idemili North Local Government Area, where heavily armed men ambushed a police patrol vehicle, set it ablaze, and reportedly opened fire on officers. Casualty figures remain uncertain as security agencies have not released an official statement regarding injuries or fatalities.
Shortly after the first attack, another incident was recorded along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road, where the convoy belonging to former Anambra State Governor Dr. Chris Ngige came under fire. According to preliminary reports, Dr. Ngige was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack.
A police officer attached to the convoy sustained gunshot injuries, while a female motorist recording the incident was fatally shot by the attackers.
Residents described the scenes as chaotic, with commuters abandoning vehicles and fleeing to nearby buildings for safety.
Security operatives have since launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, while additional checkpoints have been mounted across major roads in the affected areas.
Authorities are expected to release an official update as investigations progress.
