Osun APC Criticizes Governor Adeleke for Staying in the U.S. Amid Rising Security Concerns
By Erewunmi Peace
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has strongly criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke for remaining in the United States despite what it describes as increasing security concerns across the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Osun APC accused Governor Adeleke of “dancing away his time” abroad at a period when residents are expressing worry over reported cases of insecurity in some local communities. The party said the governor’s prolonged stay outside the country was irresponsible and showed a lack of commitment to his duties.
According to the APC, Adeleke’s absence comes at a time when issues such as community unrest, safety concerns, and governance challenges require urgent attention from the state’s leadership. The party argued that the governor should prioritize the safety of citizens over foreign trips
Governor Adeleke has been in the United States for over a week, with his aides stating that the trip was partly for a family event and partly for meetings with potential investors. However, the APC insists that the governor’s explanation is insufficient and accused him of using state resources for unnecessary travel.
This is not the first time the Osun APC has criticized Adeleke’s foreign trips. Earlier reports from multiple Nigerian media outlets indicated that the party has repeatedly accused him of spending excessive funds on international travels since he assumed office.
Meanwhile, aides to the governor have dismissed the APC’s claims, insisting that governance in Osun State is running smoothly. The governor’s spokesperson noted that Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi is overseeing state affairs in Adeleke’s absence, and assured citizens that security agencies are already addressing community-level concerns.
While political tensions rise, some residents of the state have expressed mixed feelings, with supporters of the governor arguing that the APC’s criticism is politically motivated, especially ahead of future elections. Others believe that Adeleke’s physical presence in the state is necessary given current security discussions.
The governor is expected to return to Nigeria soon, though no official date has been announced.
