At least four people have died and one injured in a multiple-vehicle crash along the Eleko–Jetty corridor near Orimedu Mobile Filling Station, Ibeju‑Lekki, Lagos, authorities confirmed.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported that the collision involved a tanker (Mack truck), an SUV, and a commercial tricycle, with a total of six occupants across the vehicles. Of the four fatalities, three were children, while the surviving injured person is receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital.
Preliminary investigations by FRSC indicate that speeding and reckless driving were major factors contributing to the accident. The corps has urged motorists to drive cautiously, obey traffic regulations, and avoid overspeeding, particularly along high-risk corridors.
A spokesperson for FRSC stated:
“This is a tragic incident that underscores the importance of defensive driving and adherence to traffic laws. Our officers will continue to monitor high-risk areas to prevent further accidents.”
The FRSC has advised all road users to remain vigilant, ensure vehicles are roadworthy, and report any reckless driving immediately. Families and motorists are also urged to observe safety protocols, especially when transporting children.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and further details, including the identities of the deceased, are expected to be released as authorities complete their inquiries.
