Dangote Refinery to Supply 1.5 Billion Litres of Petrol Monthly — Company Assures Steady Fuel Availability
By Erewunmi Peace
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced that it is set to supply 1.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) — commonly known as petrol — every month to the Nigerian market. The commitment is expected to ease nationwide fuel scarcity fears and boost domestic supply as the nation enters a high-demand period.
According to statements released by the refinery and confirmed by national regulatory bodies, the 1.5 billion-litre monthly supply translates to an average of 50 million litres per day.
The refinery says it will begin this supply volume immediately, with December and January allocated for the initial 1.5 billion litres monthly. The refinery also disclosed plans to increase production to 1.7 billion litres monthly from February 2026, pushing daily output to over 57 million litres.
Industry observers say this would position Dangote as the largest single supplier of petrol in West Africa, reducing dependence on imported fuel.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has been invited to monitor the lifting and distribution process to ensure transparency and nationwide coverage. The agency recently reported challenges in domestic supply, prompting Dangote’s assurance of consistent delivery.
Nigeria’s fuel consumption currently ranges between 50–66 million litres per day. Dangote’s supply capacity could significantly reduce the need for fuel imports and stabilize retail prices across the country.
The refinery noted that smooth operation will depend on logistics, crude availability, and seamless product evacuation across depots.
Experts believe Dangote’s entry into large-scale PMS supply could reshape the downstream petroleum market, reduce forex pressure from fuel imports, and improve national energy security.
