INEC recognizes only Samuel Anyawu as PDP National Secretary – Wike
By Erewunmi Peace
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognises Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the PDP.
Wike made the statement while reacting to ongoing disagreements within the party involving Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other PDP leaders over the party’s leadership structure.
According to Wike, INEC’s records still list Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary, insisting that the electoral body deals strictly with officially recognised party documents and submissions.
The statement comes amid a prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP, with factions disagreeing over appointments and authority at the national level. The dispute has generated tensions among key stakeholders and sparked public exchanges between party leaders.
As of the time of filing this report, INEC has not issued a fresh public statement clarifying its position on the PDP national secretaryship beyond existing records cited by party officials.
The leadership disagreement is part of broader internal challenges facing the opposition party as it works to stabilise ahead of future elections.
