PDP Suspends National Secretary, Legal Adviser, Others Amid Leadership Crisis
By Erewunmi Peace
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended several top national officers as internal leadership battles continue to rock the opposition party.
Those affected by the suspension include the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and other key members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
The suspension was confirmed on Saturday following a meeting of a faction of the NWC, which cited gross misconduct and actions deemed capable of further destabilising the party during an already tense period.
The affected officers have been referred to the party’s Disciplinary Committee, with the suspension expected to last one month pending further review.
The PDP has been embroiled in a deepening leadership crisis triggered by legal battles, factional power struggles, and disagreements over convention timelines and state congresses.
Political analysts say the latest suspensions highlight the fragile internal unity ahead of the party’s preparations for upcoming elections.
The suspended officials are yet to issue a formal response, while supporters of the party await clearer communication from the National Executive Committee (NEC) to determine whether the decision will stand across all factions.
The situation continues to evolve as stakeholders call for a peaceful resolution to prevent further damage to the party’s structure and credibility.
