Wike Says PDP and APC Have Collapsed Into “Renewed Hope Family” in Rivers State

By Erewunmi Peace

Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State and current FCT Minister, has declared that traditional political divisions in the state, namely the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), have “collapsed” into a single entity he calls the Renewed Hope family.

During visits to Etche and Omuma local government areas, Wike urged residents to move beyond party labels. He said, “I don’t want to hear again, ‘I am PDP’ or ‘I am APC.’ We are all now members of the Renewed Hope family.”

Wike described the move as a way to unify supporters under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s national policy framework.

According to him, the political rivalry between APC and PDP in Rivers has become less relevant as the state focuses on development and governance.

However, Wike’s statement has drawn criticism from PDP leaders in the state, who insist that the party remains active and that his claim is misleading.

Political analysts note that the statement reflects Wike’s growing alignment with the federal government, despite his controversial history within the PDP.

This announcement adds to the ongoing political dynamics in Rivers State as 2026 approaches, with parties and politicians recalibrating their strategies ahead of upcoming elections.
