President Bola Tinubu on Friday approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), appointing Mr. Joseph Tegbe as its chairman.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tegbe will lead efforts to implement the administration’s landmark tax reforms, aligning them with the economic goals of the government and the people of Nigeria.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, will oversee the committee’s activities. The committee will conduct extensive consultations across public and private sectors to ensure broad-based input into the implementation process.
Joseph Tegbe, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCIT), brings over 35 years of professional experience across the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.
The committee’s secretary will be Mrs. Sanyade Okoli, Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, with members including Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El Rufai, and other experts.
President Tinubu emphasized that the effective implementation of the new Tax Acts is central to Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda, critical for strengthening public finance management, and safeguarding the interests of investors and the productive sectors.
“These new Tax Acts reflect our administration’s commitment to building a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that supports economic growth while protecting citizens and businesses. The NTPIC will ensure coherent and effective implementation across all levels of government,” the President stated.
The committee will engage with private sector stakeholders, professional bodies, and subnational governments, while running public awareness campaigns to ensure smooth adoption of the new laws. It will also focus on inter-agency coordination, harmonizing existing frameworks with new statutes, and ensuring unified oversight throughout the transition.
Chairman Tegbe expressed the team’s readiness to work diligently in support of national development, drawing on expertise from tax administration, finance, law, the private sector, and civil society to ensure an inclusive and balanced approach to policy execution.
