Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that his administration is working tirelessly to improve national security and overall governance.
Speaking at a recent public engagement, the First Lady urged citizens to “cut her husband some slack,” noting that governing the country comes with enormous responsibility and challenges. She emphasized that the president and his team are committed to ensuring the safety of Nigerians despite ongoing security concerns across the country.
According to her, the federal government is making deliberate efforts to tackle insecurity, including addressing cases of abductions and violent crimes. She referenced recent security operations, saying the government works continuously — “seven days a week” — to protect lives and restore stability.
Mrs Tinubu acknowledged that many Nigerians are frustrated by the current state of the country but appealed for understanding, stressing that meaningful change requires time. She maintained that the administration remains focused on strengthening security agencies and supporting initiatives aimed at safeguarding citizens.
Her comments come amid widespread public debate over Nigeria’s security situation, with concerns ranging from banditry and kidnapping to insurgency in parts of the country. While some Nigerians have welcomed the First Lady’s reassurance, others continue to express dissatisfaction with the pace of improvements.
As of the time of this report, the Presidency has reiterated its commitment to addressing insecurity and improving the welfare of Nigerians, calling for national cooperation and unity in confronting the country’s challenges.
