2027 Election: Atiku’s Son Joins APC, Backs Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid
By Erewunmi Peace
Abubakar “Abba” Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The defection ceremony took place at the National Assembly in Abuja, where Abba was welcomed by top APC leaders, including Senator Barau Jibrin, Deputy President of the Senate. During the event, Abba expressed his confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and called on members of his political organisation to mobilise support for the APC ahead of the upcoming elections.
“This is a critical time for our nation. I am convinced that President Tinubu’s policies and vision are in the best interest of Nigeria, and I will do all I can to support his second-term bid,” Abba said in his speech.
APC leaders described the defection as a significant political development and a boost for the ruling party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.
The move marks a notable realignment, as Abba was previously associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party of his father.
Political analysts say the defection could influence public perception and voter alignment in key regions ahead of the 2027 polls.
