Ladoja Seeks Federal Government Support to Address Ibadan’s Ecological Challenges

By Erewunmi Peace

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has appealed to the Federal Government for urgent intervention to tackle persistent ecological challenges affecting Ibadan and its surrounding communities.

Oba Ladoja made the appeal during a visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, in Abuja.

He highlighted the growing concerns over flooding, erosion, and environmental degradation, which have continued to threaten lives, properties, and economic activities in the ancient city.

The traditional ruler noted that while previous interventions such as the Ogunpa flood control project had helped in some areas, several communities remain vulnerable and require additional federal support. He stressed that comprehensive and sustained ecological measures are needed to prevent recurring disasters during the rainy season.

In response, the SGF assured the Olubadan of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing ecological problems across the country, including those affecting Ibadan.

He acknowledged the severity of the challenges and promised that relevant agencies would look into possible interventions to mitigate the impact on residents.

The visit underscores renewed calls for collaboration between traditional institutions and government authorities to address environmental concerns and improve the welfare of residents in Ibadan and Oyo State at large.
