Tinubu Approves Posting of Ambassador‑Designates to US, France, UK
By Erewunmi Peace
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of several ambassador‑designates to key international missions, including the United States, France, and the United Kingdom, in a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence abroad.
The approved assignments include:
Colonel Lateef Are (retd) — Ambassador‑designate to the United States of America
Ambassador Ayodele Oke — Ambassador‑designate to France
Ambassador Amin Dalhatu — High Commissioner‑designate to the United Kingdom
These appointments were drawn from a list of nominees previously screened and confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
The Presidency has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to formally notify the host governments, in accordance with diplomatic procedures.
Political observers note that the postings signal a renewed focus on key diplomatic missions, which have experienced prolonged vacancies in recent years.
The new ambassadors are expected to assume their duties upon presentation of credentials to the respective host governments.
The appointments are part of a broader effort by the Tinubu administration to enhance Nigeria’s foreign relations, attract foreign investment, and strengthen the country’s international engagements.
