Agboola Ajayi Returns to APC After PDP Governorship Bid in Ondo
By Erewunmi Peace
Agboola Ajayi, former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the last election, has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ajayi rejoined the ruling party on Tuesday at his ward, Apoi Ward 2, in Kiribo, Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state. His defection was confirmed by party officials and witnessed by APC supporters in the area.
The former deputy governor had earlier left the APC for the PDP, where he emerged as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2024 Ondo State election. Prior to his defection, Ajayi served as deputy governor under the APC-led administration before political disagreements led to his exit from the party.
Speaking after his return, Ajayi stated that his decision to rejoin the APC was driven by the need to contribute to the development of Ondo State and support the current administration’s agenda. He pledged to work with party leaders and members to strengthen the APC in the state.
APC leaders in Ondo State welcomed Ajayi back into the party, describing his return as a boost to the party’s structure and unity ahead of future political engagements.
Ajayi’s defection adds to the growing list of political realignments in Ondo State, as parties reposition themselves ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
