Court Nullifies PDP’s Ibadan Convention in Major Win for Wike’s Camp

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention held in November 2025, in a ruling that significantly affects the party’s leadership structure.

The convention, which took place on November 15 and 16, 2025, produced members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

However, the court ruled that the exercise did not comply with existing legal and constitutional requirements.

Court’s Decision
In its judgment, the court declared the Ibadan convention invalid and of no legal effect. It also restrained individuals who emerged from the convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

The court recognised the caretaker leadership faction as the lawful authority to oversee the party’s affairs pending the conduct of a valid convention.

Political Implications

The ruling is widely viewed as a major boost for the camp loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, amid ongoing leadership disputes within the PDP.

The judgment adds another layer to the internal crisis that has continued to shape the opposition party’s structure and strategy ahead of future political activities.

PDP’s Response

Party sources indicate that the PDP may challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal. Officials maintain that legal options remain open as the party seeks to stabilise its leadership.

More developments are expected as reactions continue to trail the judgment.
