In a significant political development, Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on the governors of Bauchi and Adamawa states to consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the recent defection of Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State to the ruling party.

The vice president made the remarks while representing President Bola Tinubu at a high-profile reception held in Jalingo, Taraba State, where Governor Kefas was formally welcomed into the APC.

Speaking at the event, Shettima applauded Kefas’s decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a boost for national unity and a positive step ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also expressed confidence that the move could encourage other leaders in the Northeast to align with the APC.

“We are delighted to have Governor Agbu Kefas join the APC family.
His decision reflects a shared commitment to progress, inclusive governance, and the development of our nation,” the vice president said.

Addressing political dynamics in the region, Shettima suggested that the governors of Bauchi and Adamawa states could potentially follow Kefas’s lead in strengthening the APC’s presence in the North-East.

While no official announcements have been made by the Bauchi or Adamawa governors regarding a change in party affiliation, analysts say the vice president’s remarks signal the APC’s strategic focus on building broader support ahead of the next election cycle.
