The Defence Headquarters has completed its investigation into allegations involving 16 military officers implicated in a plot to undermine the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The investigation culminated from arrests made in October 2025 concerning breaches of military discipline and conduct.
In a statement released by Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, it was confirmed that the investigation report has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities for further action.
The findings revealed that the implicated officers engaged in behavior inconsistent with the ethics and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The report stated, “Several personnel were identified as being involved in actions aimed at undermining constitutional authority,” highlighting the severity of the allegations.
The military stressed that these actions constitute a violation of established military procedures and the ethical framework governing military conduct. Those found guilty of involvement in the alleged coup plot will face trial before military judicial panels in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service laws.
The conclusion of this investigation underscores the military’s commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding the integrity of its operations. As the country navigates complex political landscapes, the Defence Headquarters reiterated its dedication to supporting the democratic governance of Nigeria.
Further updates will be provided as the judicial process unfolds.
