Unease in Osun as Teachers’ Recruitment Faces Challenges

By Erewunmi Peace

Tension continues to build in Osun State over the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise, with reports of delays and public dissatisfaction putting pressure on the state government.

While the state government has initiated the recruitment process, many applicants have expressed frustration over delayed appointment letters and uncertainties about the selection process.

Lawmakers and education stakeholders have publicly called on the government to expedite the issuance of letters and clarify recruitment procedures to avoid further unrest.

Although some reports suggest internal disagreements among state officials regarding the recruitment process, official sources have not confirmed these claims. What is clear, however, is that the slow pace of appointments has caused widespread concern among prospective teachers and the general public.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has instructed relevant agencies to ensure that all qualified applicants receive their appointment letters promptly. Public advocacy groups have also urged transparency and accountability in the recruitment process to maintain confidence in Osun’s education sector.

Analysts note that teacher recruitment is a recurring source of tension in several Nigerian states, often highlighting administrative bottlenecks and governance challenges in the education sector.

Observers say timely action and clear communication will be essential to prevent further dissatisfaction.
