JOHESU Suspends Nationwide Strike After FG Talks, Cites Fresh Commitments
By Erewunmi Peace
The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has suspended its nationwide strike after talks with the Federal Government, following an industrial action that lasted 84 days and disrupted services at public health facilities across Nigeria.
The decision was reached at an emergency meeting of JOHESU’s National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja after reviewing agreements made during conciliation talks with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.
In a statement, JOHESU said the suspension would allow implementation of fresh commitments made by the government, including:
Review of salary structures (CONHESS) for health workers.
Commencement of collective bargaining negotiations with the union.
Withdrawal of the “No Work, No Pay” directive and plans to settle outstanding salaries.
The union also urged health workers to resume duties immediately at public hospitals, clinics, and other government health facilities, emphasizing that the action was a temporary measure to facilitate constructive dialogue.
This development marks a significant step toward resolving lingering issues between health workers and the Federal Government, ensuring continuity of health services nationwide.
