In a significant announcement on February 3, 2026, Governor Seyi Makinde unveiled the newly named Oyo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat, which will now honor former state chairman Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha.
During the unveiling ceremony held in Ibadan, Governor Makinde expressed pride in the party’s resurgence, stating, “This is PDP State Secretariat. We were out of power from 2011 to 2019. In 2019, a chairman led the PDP back to power.” He specifically credited Mustapha for his leadership during that pivotal time.
In a show of commitment, Makinde directed that Mustapha’s name be permanently inscribed on the building, emphasizing the importance of remembering the contributions of past leaders. “Architects, make sure you put a place where Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha’s name will be etched,” he instructed.
Furthermore, the governor announced that the property would be placed under the care of the party’s trustees. “This is the document to this property. I will hand it over to our national chairman for onward transmission to the Board of Trustees that holds things in trust for the PDP,” he added.
Makinde also reinforced the party’s newfound unity, declaring that figures he referred to as “vagabonds” have been expelled. He stated that the PDP is now free from previous internal disruptions, paving the way for a more cohesive future.
