LAWMA Issues Stern Warning After Attacks on Enforcement Officers

By Erewunmi Peace

Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has issued a strong warning to residents following reported attacks on its enforcement officers during routine operations across the state.

The agency condemned the harassment, intimidation, and physical obstruction of its personnel while carrying out their lawful duties of enforcing environmental sanitation regulations.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, described the attacks as unacceptable and a violation of state environmental laws.

He emphasized that enforcement officers are deployed to ensure compliance with waste management regulations and to safeguard public health.

Dr. Gbadegesin stressed that any individual found assaulting or obstructing LAWMA officials will face legal consequences, including possible arrest and prosecution under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.

According to the agency, maintaining environmental standards requires cooperation from residents, businesses, and communities. LAWMA therefore urged members of the public to comply with waste disposal guidelines and support ongoing efforts to keep Lagos clean.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing sanitation laws and protecting its personnel while continuing to promote a cleaner and healthier environment for all Lagosians.
