FCTA Denies Owing Workers Salaries Amid Protests

By Erewunmi Peace

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed claims that its workers are being owed salaries, following recent protests and public complaints over unpaid entitlements in the Federal Capital Territory.

An aide to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, stated that all duly employed staff of the FCTA have received their salaries, describing reports of salary arrears as misleading and inaccurate. According to the aide, payments due to permanent staff on the government payroll have been fully settled.

The official clarified that many of the complaints circulating online and on social media may be linked to contractors and casual workers, stressing that such categories of workers should not be confused with formally employed FCTA staff.

“Contractors are not the same as workers on the FCTA payroll,” the aide noted, adding that the administration remains committed to fulfilling its obligations to legitimate employees.

However, labour unions and protesting workers have continued to raise concerns over unpaid allowances and other entitlements, insisting that some welfare issues remain unresolved.

The protests have sparked public debate, with calls for greater transparency and dialogue between the government and workers’ representatives.

The FCTA has urged the public to rely on verified information and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to address outstanding labour-related concerns through appropriate channels.
