Anambra Man Escapes Kidnappers After Refusing ₦40 Million Ransom

A man abducted by suspected kidnappers in Anambra State has escaped from captivity after his abductors demanded a ₦40 million ransom, police authorities have confirmed.

The victim, a Nigerian businessman based in South Africa, was reportedly kidnapped on January 1, 2026, in Orumba South Local Government Area while visiting his hometown.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, the kidnappers contacted the victim’s family and demanded ₦40 million for his release. However, no ransom was paid.

After spending several days in captivity, the man managed to escape from the kidnappers’ hideout. He was later discovered by a joint security patrol team operating around the Isulo axis of the state.

Police officials said the victim was immediately taken to safety, debriefed, and reunited with his family.

Information obtained from him is currently being used to track down the suspects and dismantle their criminal network.

The police have assured residents of Anambra State of their commitment to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities, urging the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely information.
