APC Declares Agbu Kefas’s Defection “Unconditional” as He Prepares to Join Party
By Erewunmi Peace
The Taraba State chapter of the APC has confirmed that Governor Agbu Kefas is set to defect from the PDP to the APC, and the party insists the move is on an unconditional basis.
According to the party’s State Director of Publicity, Aeron Atimas, “APC has not laid out any demands before accepting the governor to come in. When he comes in, we are sure he will do justice to all manners of people. He is joining us without any hustles or rancour.”
The move has been described as part of a broader political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, with speculation that the formal reception of Governor Kefas into the APC will take place in Jalingo on November 19 2025.
A local reconciliation forum, the Taraba State Unity, Progressive and Reconciliation Forum, has also voiced its endorsement of the governor’s anticipated defection, saying it would help foster unity and accelerate development in the state.
The governor’s switch to the APC may reshape the political terrain in Taraba State, a region historically held by the PDP.
By declaring the defection “without conditions”, the APC may be signalling an inclusive strategy and trying to ease any internal tensions that might accompany such a move.
With the 2027 elections looming, the timing suggests both national and state-level party machinery are already positioning ahead of the contest.
