CD Condemns Akinlalu Killings, Demands Immediate Arrest of Osun Amotekun Commandant, Others

By Erewunmi Peace

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) has condemned the recent killings in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, allegedly involving operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps. The group called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the corps’ Commandant, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinbi (rtd), and other officers connected to the incident.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by its National President, Comrade Bako Abdul, the CD described the killings as “an inexcusable abuse of authority and a gross violation of human rights,” urging both the Osun State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to ensure justice for the victims.

“We cannot continue to tolerate a situation where security agencies, set up to protect citizens, become instruments of oppression,” the statement read in part.
“We demand that the Osun Amotekun Commandant and all culpable officers be arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent.”

The condemnation follows the killing of several residents during a reported clash between Amotekun operatives and youths in Akinlalu. The police have since confirmed the arrest of over 20 Amotekun officers in connection with the incident.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State had earlier also demanded the arrest of the Amotekun Commandant, alleging that his men acted beyond their mandate.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Government has assured the public that an investigation is ongoing, promising that those found guilty will face the full weight of the law.

The Akinlalu killings have sparked outrage across the state, with several rights groups calling for transparency and justice in handling the case.
