Drama as Governor Ademola Adeleke Employed Osun Amotekun Corps as Adhoc Operative -By Segun Adebowale

Reports circulating on social media suggesting that Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, employed members of the Osun Amotekun Corps as “ad-hoc operatives” have been found to be misleading. Investigations reveal that the governor’s administration is in fact expanding and institutionalizing the state security outfit, rather than casualizing it.

Governor Adeleke has overseen the recruitment and training of over 1,150 new Amotekun personnel in 2025 as part of a larger initiative to boost grassroots security across the state. The expansion is designed to enhance local intelligence gathering, response time, and coordination with federal security agencies.

Contrary to claims of ad-hoc employment, the Adeleke administration recently signed a new law integrating the Osun Amotekun Corps into the Osun State Civil Service Scheme.
This reform provides the operatives with permanent employment, improved welfare, and job security, marking a significant milestone in the formal recognition of Amotekun’s role within the state’s security architecture.

Policy Goal: Strengthening Community Security

Governor Adeleke has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to professionalizing the corps and equipping them with modern tools and logistics support. The goal, according to government sources, is to make Amotekun a stronger, community-based security network that complements the operations of the Nigerian Police and other federal security agencies.

While some reports described the development as “drama,” official actions indicate the opposite — a deliberate move to stabilize and empower the corps.
Analysts say the integration into the civil service represents a major policy shift that could improve morale, accountability, and long-term sustainability of the outfit.

The narrative portraying Amotekun operatives as “ad-hoc” hires appears to misrepresent the state’s genuine efforts at institutional reform and security enhancement. Rather than downgrading the corps, Governor Adeleke’s government is taking bold steps to professionalize and strengthen one of Osun’s key security pillars.
