El-Rufai Joins ADC Ahead of 2027 Elections, Signals Political Comeback
By Erewunmi Peace
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling his intention to play a major role in Nigeria’s 2027 elections.
El-Rufai collected his ADC membership card at the party’s Unguwar Sarki office in Kaduna, officially declaring the platform as his “political home.”
The move comes after unsuccessful negotiations with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), confirming that ADC will be the platform for his political ambitions in the run-up to 2027.
While addressing supporters, El-Rufai highlighted his belief that ADC offers the best opportunity to “rescue” Kaduna State and challenge the ruling formation in the next general elections.
Reports indicate that he vowed to leverage the platform to replicate the successes of his 2025 political engagements, rallying his supporters for a strong showing in 2027.
The announcement has sparked reactions across social media and political circles. Analysts see the move as a strategic realignment, strengthening ADC’s profile in northern Nigeria ahead of the next elections.
Some political commentators suggest that El-Rufai’s popularity could reshape local alliances, potentially altering the dynamics of Kaduna and broader national politics.
With El-Rufai now firmly in ADC, attention turns to how the party will position itself against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other opposition groups ahead of 2027.
Political watchers expect increased activity from El-Rufai in the coming months as he consolidates support within the party and among his base.
