FCTA Workers Announce Strike, Offices to Shut Down Monday
By Erewunmi Peace
Workers under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have announced that they will shut down government offices starting Monday, January 19, 2026, as part of an indefinite strike over unresolved welfare and labour issues.
The strike, organized by the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), comes after a seven-day ultimatum issued to FCTA management expired without a satisfactory response.
According to the unions, the unresolved issues include:
Unpaid promotion arrears
Delayed promotions
Non-remittance of pension and National Housing Fund (NHF) contributions
Other welfare concerns affecting civil servants
If the strike proceeds as planned, it is expected to disrupt administrative activities across the FCT, affecting government offices, departments, agencies, and area councils. Residents and businesses are being advised to prepare for potential delays in public service delivery.
The unions have called on FCTA management to engage in urgent dialogue to avert a prolonged shutdown and minimize disruption to both civil servants and the public.
